Optical Bonding primarily serves to avoid the air gap between face-plate and TFT or LCD display. Thus the optical display of the screen contents gains in sharpness and depth. In many areas of the industry touch displays as HMI (human – machine – interface) are used more and more often. Often these HMIs are carried out as a glass/glass solution, with the disadvantage that glass is heavy and breaks very easily. Moreover, there are restrictions for the use of glass solutions in some applications (food industry).

So far it was virtually not possible to implement the properties low weight, impact resistance and high-quality optics on HMIs.

Therefore Cellwar searched for a solution, how touch sensors (PCAPs) can be connected with plastic fronts.

The advantages are obvious:

  • Impact resistance by using a plastic front
  • Use of a special adhesive, thus a temperature range of -20°C to +50°C in dry and wet climate (tested)
  • High-quality surfaces, scratch-resistant and/or non-reflecting (satined)
  • No inclusions and air bubbles because of production under cleanroom conditions
  • No corona rings because of all-over bonding
  • Low weight because of the use of plastics for the front material
  • Low quantities possible (from ca. 50 pcs/year)
  • Any tests of material and assembly groups in our own laboratory (tensile force of the adhesive bonds, climate tests of the entire assembly group)
